Ayo Edebiri looked so ’50s while attending the premiere of her new movie Inside Out 2 in Los Angeles this Tuesday.
The Emmy-winning star of The Bear made a case for the return of the contentious capri pants by way of a bright sky-blue three-piece suit courtesy of Bottega Veneta. Edebiri wore a long fitted blazer layered over a silky collared top with black buttons fastened all the way up to the top. The actor tucked the blouse into some tailored capri pants in the same hue, which rested at her waist and ended right below her knees.

Continuing the 1950s vibes, she paired her capri pantsuit with a pair of glossy black peep-toe sandals—à la Grease. She also went full retro glam with her hair, which was styled in voluminous waves. For makeup, she wore a bronze smoky eye and a glossy lip.
More From Ayo
Edebiri is just the latest star to get in on the resurgence of capri pants. The controversial staple was initially invented in the late 1940s, and popularized on the Italian resort island that gave them their name. Soon, Hollywood icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe were styling their capris with collared shirts or tight sweaters and peep-toe heels or pretty ballet flats. The pants made a comeback in the ’90s, when It girls like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie regularly wore them with platform thong sandals or sneakers.
And now, here we are again. In January, Julia Fox wore capris as part of a daring moto-inspired street look. These were covered in a mustard-yellow and graphite-gray illustration, and also included maroon and white stripes running down the sides. And in May, trendsetter Bella Hadid stepped out in a Rizzo-coded look composed of black high-rise capri pants, a cropped nylon zip-up bomber jacket, and sleek leather mules with a slim curved heel.
Now, Edebiri is showing us how to elevate the capris from love-them-or-hate-them streetwear pieces to red carpet–worthy staples.
